401 construction

The last stretch of construction to turn the 401 into a six-lane highway from London to Toronto is ahead of schedule.
Minister of Transportation, Kathleen Wynne stopped by Woodstock today and spoke to reporters about the progress of the construction between Oxford Rd. 2 and Drumbo Road, saying it should all be wrapped up this Spring.
But Wynne could not explain why the two most westerly of Woodstock’s four highway ramps were both closed today at the same time for construction — the town’s EMS services are all on the west side.
Wynne says she only heard of those closures this morning and will look into it to find what the rationelle is and what the timelines of the projects are.
Wynne says she will also ask questions about safety on Oxford Rd. 2, as the county just announced minimal road clearing service between midnight and 5 a.m. this winter.
The Drumbo-to-Oxford Rd. 2 phase of construction started two years ago.
The three-phase widening project will cost $212-million dollars.
