Development near Chemtura

The developer planning to build homes near the Chemtura plant in Elmira is taking its case to the Ontario Municipal Board.

Hawk Ridge Homes says Woolwich township and the Region are taking too long to process the application and it wants the OMB to intervene.

The developer wants to to build 44 single family homes and semis on a 5.5 half acre site along Union Street, located next to the Chemtura plant and Sulco Chemicals.

Chair of the Chemtura Public Advisory Committee Pat McLean says taking their case to the OMB is the developer’s way of trying to circumvent the process.

Officials with the Township of Woolwich says they still have outstanding concerns with a compatibility study completed by Hawk Ridge’s consultants.

Those concerns include things like noise, dust, vibration and odour.

Woolwich’s Manager of Planning John Scarfone says the OMB may ask the township, region and the developer to hold a pre-hearing to narrow down the issues.
