The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is hoping its fall food drive will help them re-stock their shelves.
The goal is to raise 375 thousand pounds of non-perishable food.
Executive director Wendi Campbell says they kept the same target as last year’s fall food drive because the demand remains consistent.
She says they are seeing a slight drop in requests but the number is still higher than post-recession levels.
According to the food bank, 28 thousand people need to access emergency food assistance.
A group of grade six students in Kitchener helped launch the fall food drive today.
Colin Read’s students organized the kick off at Bridgeport Public School. The school’s goal is to raise 2 thousand pounds of food.
The food bank is looking for peanut butter, rice, canned meat and fish, beans in sauce and canned fruit.
