It seems a tad early to be talking about snowmobiling, but local clubs are already planning for the new season.
After a less than wintry season last year, they are hoping for more snow and colder temperatures this time around.
Regardless of the weather they got some very good news this past week when the province announced a $3,000,000 boost to go toward the trails system.
The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs will distribute the money to its various districts.
Our area is covered under District 5 and manager, Suzanne Sharp tells 570 News the money will go a long way for general upkeep and fixing or replacing bridges and culverts.
She says snowmobiling is a growing sport in Ontario with 74,000 permits issued last year.
She’s encouraged by early long-term forecasts that call for a normal winter adding some people shy away from buying permits because they are concerned they won’t get their money’s worth if there’s not much snow.
