Fatal crash on 401

Highway 401 was entirely closed for hours by an early-morning fatal crash.
OPP Constable Graham Williamson tells 570 News the 3:10 a.m. crash involved a pick-up travelling eastbound approaching Hwy 6 south.
The truck swerved from side to side, striking a light pole, and crashing into the centre median.
Both people in the truck were ejected, one person landing on the eastbound side of the highway, one on the westbound side.
Williamson says an 18-year old female from the Durham Region area was pronounced dead at the scene.
A male believed to be in his early 20’s was sent to hospital — no other information is known about him at this time.
Both sides of the highway were immediately closed, the westbound side opened a few hours later, and all lanes were fully opened at 7:20.
The investigation continues.
