The Mayor of Cambridge used his state of the city address Thursday night to point how well his city weathered the economic storm.
Doug Craig highlighted the fact that his city had the lowest tax increase, lowest debt, least number of new employees and smallest payroll increases.
He also says his city will maintain the same level of services in 2011 and attempt to avoid job losses and layoffs.
Craig later pointed out that the 33 million dollars in stimulus money spent on the city created 95 thousand hours of employment and a put a number of people back to work.
He also praised private development in the core, including the Drayton Theatre and the 30 million dollar Waterscape condominium, which he says is almost 80 percent sold and construction nearly 80 percent complete.
Before his closing remarks, Craig acknowledged the work of social agencies, saying the city’s move to support them is not about being popular, it’s about making the right decisions.
