Wage freeze?

TORONTO – A key union leader says Ontario could see an end to years of labour peace if Premier Dalton McGuinty sticks with plans for a two-year wage freeze.
Canadian Auto Workers union president Ken Lewenza warns that there could be work stoppages.
McGuinty is appealing to the province’s public sector unions to co-operate as Ontario tries to dig out of a $19 billion dollar deficit.
A second round of talks with some unions has begun, but CUPE Ontario president Fred Hahn says it is too early to say if the talks could end in strikes.
About 700,000 public sector employees could be subject to a freeze that could last beyond 2014, depending on when contracts are signed.
Another 350,000 managers and non-union workers are also subject to the freeze.
