The father of a local Waste Management worker says a co-worker and a passer-by likely saved his son’s life after he was seriously injured by broken glass.
570 News has learned 20-year old Devin Siegfried is expected to make a full recovery after eight hours of surgery on his arm.
Regional Police report the young man was picking up some garbage in Kitchener yesterday and the glass cut his arm.
Devin’s father, Bill, says his son’s co-worker, apparently the driver of the waste truck, knew exactly what to do when the injury happened.
And by chance, an off-duty nurse happened to be passing by at the time and stopped to help before the ambulance arrived.
Devin suffered a severed artery and tendons, a severed bicep and tricep, and 40 per cent damage to the arm’s main nerve.
His father, Bill also commends the work of local emergency personnel, staff at the ER of Grand River Hospital, and at Hamilton Heath Sciences.
Bill says his son’s surgical team feel Devin will recover, but faces a long road of rehab to regain all his motor skills.
