Extending Fairway Road

A $46-million road work project is in the works for Waterloo Region that will offer a new link between Kitchener and Cambridge.

Regional Council will vote at tomorrow’s meeting to approve a contract to extend Fairway Road across the Grand River to meet up with the intersection of Fountain Street and Kossuth Road in Cambridge.

The work includes a new bridge crossing the Grand River and a new bridge crossing Randall Creek where Fairway Road currently ends.

There will also be two roundabouts, as well as cycling lanes and watermain improvements.

The Fairway Road Extension is set to get underway on the 31st of this month, and is expected to be open to vehicular traffic by October 31, 2012.

Regional Staff say in a report to Council that Grascan Construction Ltd. of Toronto came in with the lowest bid for the project.
