Traffic light improvements for EMS

It’s going to run the Region $3 million, but it could make the difference between life and death.
Regional Council has okayed enhanced technology that will allow ambulances, fire trucks and some buses to automatically change traffic lights to green at more intersections than currently allowed — up to 480 intersections.
It’s estimated this will shave more than a full minute off response times.
This morning’s Record quotes the regional director of emergency services, John Prno as saying, “Could it save lives?  Potentially.”
The technology will be installed over the next two years.
