Waterloo region experiences job growth in July

Fewer people lost their jobs in Waterloo region last month.

Statistics Canada says our jobless rate dropped from 7.9 percent to 7.3 percent in July.

The number of people working grew by 45 hundred to just over 269 thousand.

The national unemployment rate didn’t do as well as our region, losing 93-hundred jobs in July. Most of those were transferred into part-time work.

That nudges the rate up to eight percent.

Analysts had predicted a gain of more than 12-thousand jobs.
