Tragic weekend waterside

TORONTO – There were a number of incidents around Ontario where long weekend fun took tragic turns.
A woman in her 60s is dead and a four-year-old Mississauga boy is clinging to life after two separate backyard pool incidents.
The woman was pulled from a pool in north-end Toronto (near Willowdale and Finch) last night without vital signs and died at the scene.
Her identity has not yet been released.
Earlier, the little boy was spotted under water at a pool where people from a local Korean church had gathered for a barbecue (near Lakeshore and Lorne).
Police say the child was unconscious when pulled from the water and C-P-R was performed.
Paramedics continued C-P-R en route to hospital and managed to bring back a pulse, but the boy remains in critical condition in a Toronto trauma centre.
Another child, a two-year-old, was also rushed to hospital last night after slipping under the water of a west-end pool, but the tot is expected to make a full recovery.
Last week Ontario’s acting chief coroner said the office would be investigating an uptick in drowning deaths.
Elsewhere, South Simcoe and York Regional Police are investigating a scary incident on Lake Simcoe near Roches Point.
On Sunday, a 15-metre speedboat was ripping along at high speed when it hit the wake of another boat and flipped.
The driver of the boat and his passenger were slammed into the water.
Witnesses jumped in the lake and managed to pull the two from under their wrecked boat.
A doctor who happened to be on a nearby boat performed C-P-R on one of the victims who was without vital signs.
Fortunately, she was able to revive the man.
The victims taken to shore in a police boat and then transported to a local hospital by paramedics.
Their injuries are described as serious, but non-life threatening.
