Reducing electricity use

It all adds up.

That’s the message behind  the Provincial ‘Power Pledge’ – an initiative launched by the Ontario Power Authority.

It’s a contest that pits communities against one another to see which one can reduce their electricity consumption the most.

Cambridge is taking the challenge.

Barb Shortreed from Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro tells 570 News 1,200 Cambridge residents have already made the online pledge.

She says the target is phantom power – things like computers, which may be turned off, but are still plugged in and drawing power.

The winning community gets a $10,000 solar installation and you’ll also receive twenty Air Miles Reward Miles to keep or donate to charity.
