The Guelph Fire Department credits a working smoke detector for perhaps helping avert a possible tragedy.
They say around one this morning a resident at 383 Edinburgh Road South was alerted to smoke in their unit, called the fire department and left the building.
Fire officials say when they arrived they found a dishwasher on fire.
No one was hurt and no damage figure is available, but authorities say there was a fair amount of smoke in the unit.
