Black granted bail

Conrad Black has been granted bail on a $2 million bond and ordered to remain in the United States for now.
The ruling came this morning as his lawyers appeared in a Chicago courtroom for a bail hearing before Judge Amy St. Eve, the judge who presided over Black’s trial in 2007 and sentenced him to six-and-a-half years in jail.
Black’s lawyer Miguel Estrada requested that the Canadian-born media mogul be allowed to return to Canada. “His home is in Toronto,” Estrada said.
But prosecutors argued that he should be required to remain in the United States.
The judge agreed with the prosecution, ordering Black to stay in the country for now.
She also asked for a financial affidavit, saying she will decide after seeing the document whether Black can travel outside the continental United States.
