It’s the final showdown in Johannesburg, South Africa between Spain and the Netherlands.
This will be the first time Spain or the Netherlands hold the title for World Cup champs. The Netherlands lost the finals in 1974 and 1978. For Spain, European champions, this is the first time they’ve reached the finals.
Nelson Mandela’s grandson says South Africa’s former president will greet fans during the World Cup finals. The anti-apartheid icon has kept a low profile during the month-long tournament, having decided against attending the opening game on June 11 following the death of his great granddaughter.
Despite Netherlands’ undefeated streak, winning their last 24 matches, Spain is considered the favourite. FIFA is yet to announce who will present the trophy to either Spain or the Netherlands at Soccer City in Johannesburg.
