It was a grand opening for the Stratford Shakespeare Festival on Monday night. Tuxedo’s, ball gowns and limousines were all around the red carpet at the Festival Theatre before the opening of “As You Like It” – directed by Des McAnuff.
He tells 570 News it’s a fantastic time for the theatre company, the actors and for Stratford.
McAnuff also says he’s excited about the different styles of shows being put on this year.
Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor David Onley was on hand for the curtain raiser. Other dignitaries on-hand at the gala event, which featured a champagne reception and dinner, included actors Christopher Plummer, Colm Feore and Sean Cullen.
Plummer is starring in “The Tempest” which opens at the festival on June 25th.
Cullen, meanwhile, is in productions of both “Peter Pan” and “King of Thieves”.
