A section of Duke Street West in Kitchener was shut down for a gas leak this morning.
Barry Musselman, Operations Manager for Kitchener Utilities, tells 570 News a work crew cut a gas main while working beside One Eyed Jack’s, a small bar on Duke St.
He says the public was never in danger from the leak, as the gas was venting into the open air.
Police closed down Duke St between Ontario and Young Streets while fire and utility crews got the leak under control.
Musselman says five area businesses would be without gas for an hour or so while they worked.
He says there are no charges, but the company that cut the line will pay for all the repairs.
Musselman says the gas line was properly checked and its location marked before the work began.
