50 Million reasons to play

Canadians dreaming of a lottery windfall have a $50 million jackpot to hang their hopes on.

Tonight’s Lotto Max jackpot has hit the maximum for the third time since the game was launched last September.

To win the jackpot, or one of the extra million-dollar Maxmillions prizes, players must match all seven numbers drawn.

Ticket sales for Lotto Max are reportedly up by more than 80 per cent across the country this week, compared to last week.

In February, two tickets split a $50 million Lotto Max draw.  One was in Quebec and the other in British Columbia.  Last November, Marie Fontaine of Pine Falls, Manitoba picked up $50-million Lotto Max prize.

But these aren’t the largest lottery jackpot prizes in Canadian history.  17 Alberta oil workers shared the record $54.3-million Lotto 6-49 prize in 2005.
