Police confirm meth lab

Waterloo Regional Police now say the industrial building raided in Cambridge earlier this week was a large meth lab.

Superintendent Gary Askin says the building on Jarvis Street housed one of the largest meth labs they have uncovered in this area in the last 10 to 15 years.

He says they don’t know how long it had been in operation but considerable work went into its construction.

Police have removed a large quantity of chemicals, equipment, glassware, and plastic pails.

The lab was also producing P2P, a precursor used to produce meth, which Askin says is not particularly common.

Meth produces toxic chemicals and some of them are flammable or explosive.

Askin says they have seen some of the final product.

Investigators hope to finish their on-scene investigation later this afternoon.

Askin says the evidence suggests suspects involved could have been dumping toxic chemicals.

Vegetation behind the building has died and police are looking into whether chemicals were dumped there.

The city of Cambridge says and Ministry of the Environment are also involved.

No suspects have been arrested but police say they are following up on leads.
