Duncan talks HST in Kitchener

Ontario’s Finance Minister says the cheque will be in the mail next week.

Eligible individuals who make less than 80 thousand dollars a year will receive the first of three HST transition payments worth a total of 300 dollars, beginning June 10th.

Eligible families earning less than 160 thousand dollars a year will get one thousand dollars back.

The HST takes effect July 1st and Dwight Duncan tells 570 News it will be a smooth transition.

However, he admits there will be a few glitches and he says the Ministry of Revenue is still getting thousands of calls about the new tax.

Duncan made the comments during a stop in Kitchener where he met with experts to talk about the future of Canada’s post-retirement income system.
