Needles put in after packaging

Waterloo-based Piller’s is commenting on needles found in a handful of their products sold in Toronto stores.
The company says in a statement, “The needles in question are definitely detectable by our metal detection program. This means that the objects were inserted after packaging. This has been verified by CFIA.”
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has confirmed that information to 570 News.
Piller’s says all its processing facilities and packaging lines are equipped with metal detection devices and are monitored and validated several times a day during production.
These products are distributed nationally to thousands of locations across Canada. The products that were tampered with were purchased in a localized area of West Toronto.
The public is requested to check their packaging of Piller’s Polish sausages, Piller’s Kolbassa and Piller’s Turkey Kolbassa thoroughly to see if there is any evidence of tampering. If you have reason to suspect that the product has been tampered with you should retain the product, the packaging, retain your receipt and call your local police or the Canadian Food inspection Agency at 416-665-5049.
