iPad is finally here

The iPad has finally landed, officially, in Canada.  Apple retail stores planned to open early today to start selling the new tablet computers.

The iPad was first released in the U.S. about eight weeks ago and quickly sold more than a million units.  Many of those customers were cross-border shopping Canadians, who couldn’t wait to get their hands on the latest, greatest tech toy.

The iPads are also $50 cheaper in the U.S.  In Canada, the cheapest of six models is $549 and the most expensive is $879.

The iPad is a flat, 10-inch touch screen with Internet access that can play music and games as well as display photos.

It’s also being launched in Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and Britain.

Shoppers mobbed Apple’s flagship store in London, England today, with long lines along Regent Street.
