Third straight scorcher for Region

It looks like this will be a record-setting week for hot weather in Ontario.

High temperatures for two days have been knocking down records across the province and much the same is forecast again for today.

Environment Canada’s Dave Phillips says a high-pressure system that started in U-S has caused a “heat bubble” over Ontario and Quebec.

He says some areas of Ontario have seen more hot days this week than in all of last summer, and is predicting hot, dry conditions for months.  Phillips will go as far as to say that we may even get “too much summer.”

It will start to get a little cooler tomorrow, although temperatures will still be above normal.

Records were broken all over Ontario yesterday including in Waterloo Region, where the high was 29.8, breaking the old mark of 29.4 set in 1978.  Tuesday’s high was 28.5 which broke the 1975 record of 27.8.

As for today, 570 News Weather Specialist John Wilson is forecasting a high of 30 which would tie the record for this day set in 1987.  If it goes above 30 – it would be the third consecutive record high to fall.

Records were also broken in Toronto, Ottawa, Peterborough, Muskoka,Trenton, Kapuskasing, Timmins, Geraldton, Chapleau, Wawa, Earlton, Sudbury, North Bay and Sault Ste. Marie.
