Soldier killed in blast identified

The Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan today has been identified as 42 year old Col. Geoff Parker of the Royal Canadian Regiment.
He is the highest-ranking member of the Canadian Forces to die in Afghanistan since the mission began 8 years ago.
Parker is the 145th member of the Canadian Forces to die in Afghanistan.
He was originally from Oakville.
A Taliban suicide car bomber targeted a NATO convoy in Kabul, also killing five American soldiers and 12 Afghan civilians.
Another 47 people were hurt in the blast.
