Our kids need to get physical.
For the 4th year in a row, a report card from Active Healthy Kids Canada is assigning an “F” when it comes to physical activity levels for Canadian children and youth.
Just 12 per cent of Canadian kids over the age of five are getting the recommended 90 minutes of exercise each day.
The report also says 90 per cent of children begin watching TV before their second birthday.
But the report card does give a “B” for the proximity and accessibility to physical activity facilities.
Active Healthy Kids Canada CEO, Michelle Brownrigg
tells 570 News role modeling is factor.
She says kids recognize the value of physical activities when they see the adults in their lives are active.
Brownrigg adds families need to take a look their household habits and set some guidelines in terms of TV watching.
