Too many people dying on the highways, when it just takes a second to “click it in.”
OPP Sergeant Dave Woodford tells 570 News that’s why the force is launching their Spring Seatbelt Campaign, starting tomorrow and running to April 24.
Woodford says twelve people have already died in crashes this year on OPP patrolled highways for not wearing a seatbelt, and that’s far too many.
He says some 95% of drivers wear their seatbelts, but there’s always those few who don’t, and that’s unacceptable after 33 years of the seatbelt law.
The OPP will also be focusing their efforts on child restraints during this campaign, to raise awareness and protect children.
Woodford explains a lot of people think they are properly installing a child seat, but they’re not.
He adds, in a rollover situation, you do not want your child’s seat coming loose.
Woodford reminds all drivers seatbelt non-compliance now draws a fine of $235 and two demerit points.
