Consumption down during Earth Hour

The world-wide energy conservation initiative asked people everywhere to turn off their lights for one hour this past Saturday evening.
Kitchener Wilmot Hydro, Operations Manager, Wilf Meston tells 570 News Kitchener saved six to eight megawatts during Earth Hour, roughly a 3% or 4% reduction.
Meston says the awareness factor is more important than the energy saved in a single hour.
Waterloo North Hydro reports a 3% reduction.
Communications Officer, John Janzen echoes the idea that it’s worth it to promote conservation.
Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro had a 2.2% drop in consumption, equalling 3.25 megawatts, or enough power for roughly 1,000 homes.
The Independent Electricity System Operator says demand for electricity in Ontario fell by approximately 4%, or 560 megawatts, as a result of Earth Hour.
That’s the average peak energy needs of a city the size of Brampton.
