MCC relief efforts in Haiti huge success

Kitchener’s Mennonite Central Committee is celebrating a very successful relief effort in Haiti and Waterloo Region residents are getting a big thank you.

The MCC says the financial donations it received for Haiti from across Ontario were about $2.5-million and more than half of that came from residents in our region.

Resource Development Director Dan Driedger tells 570 News the MCC is thrilled with the generosity in this community. He says they raised roughly $250,000 more for Haiti relief then for tsunami relief efforts in 2004.

The MCC will send one more shipment of relief kits to Haiti next week, bringing the total number of kits shipped to about 7,500.

The agency hosted an event Tuesday afternoon to celebrate its short-term success in Haiti.
