The opposition parties are piling on the McGuinty government over its latest energy policy move: an annual charge of $4 on hydro bills starting in May.
Ontario Conservative Leader Tim Hudak tells 570’s Jeff Allan Show the figures may be small, but taxpayers’ backs are already broken.
He says Ontarians are already bracing for the harmonized sales tax this summer and are struggling to keep up with rising hydro bills.
Energy Minister Brad Duguid defends the move, telling Jeff this will ultimately save consumers money.
He says $4 a year works out to around 33-cents a month and reduces our dependency on expensive forms of energy such as nuclear power.
He says the more we save, the less we have to produce.
