Warm temperatures have residents thinking Spring

Spring fever is sweeping across Waterloo Region thanks to the perfect combination of sunshine and mild temperatures.

Yesterday in Waterloo Region we set a weather record when the temperature hit 15 degrees Celsius.

The previous record was 14.3 degrees back in 1995 and Environment Canada Senior Climatologist, David Phillips says it’s possible more records could continue to fall this week.

The warmest St. Patrick’s Day on record was 16.5 degrees and Phillips believes our forecast high of 16 today will threaten that.

But it’s too soon to think of gardening and one lawn and garden expert is warning to leave that rake in the shed for now.

Perry Grobe of Grobe’s Nursery and Garden Centre tells 570 News the ground needs to dry out and firm up a bit before you take a rake to it or you risk damaging it.  He says what you can do now is plan ahead.

He says look around your yard and decide what you want to change or add, that way you’re not rushing into it all in one day.

He says something else to keep in mind is we are coming off a very dry winter so you may need to take extra measures to ensure your lawn is well nourished right through the summer.
