Local physician and nurses in Haiti

Eight local nurses, a physician and a bio-medical technician from St. Mary’s will be back in Canada next week after spending 2-weeks in Haiti.

Leanne Kidd is the International Outreach Program Coordinator at St. Mary’s and says it was a challenge getting them there, but they all arrived safely.

Kidd says the medical team are providing direct patient care to those Haitians injured in the January 12th earthquake.

She says many of them expressed shock at devastation, and felt overwhelmed by the destruction and despair, but Kidd adds they’re also inspired by the Haitian people’s will to live and survive.

Its also exciting and inspiring to colleagues at St. Mary’s.

Kidd says more trips are being planned, and they’re hoping for one a month until December of this year.
