Victoria Street reconstruction begins this summer

A major roadway in Kitchener will be torn up and rebuilt this summer.

Regional Council got its first look this morning at a watermain project for a 1.3 kilometre stretch of Victoria Street South, between Fischer-Hallman and Lawrence.

The work will close the affected roadway in two phases, and traffic will have to detour across Highland.

Planning documents show each property will be without water service for “a short time” as its connection is transferred from the old main to the new.

Local traffic for business and residents will be allowed.

Aside from the watermain improvements, the road will be resurfaced.

The $3.2-million project is set to begin this June.

A public information meeting on the project is scheduled for Thursday, February 25 at Regional headquarters.
