Group pushing for sustainable transportation

A local group wants to make sustainable transportation an issue in this fall’s municipal elections.
Tri-Cities Transport Action Group, or triTAG, is pushing for more investment in transit and cycling lanes.
It has a site on Facebook with 1,600 members and argues the region receives
over $14-million a year in federal gas tax transfers and the local municipalities also receive millions.
Monday’s Record reports, the group maintains too much money is being spent on vehicle-related infrastructure and not nearly enough on alternative modes of transportation.
Regional Chair Ken Seiling admits they can’t afford to spend that much on those other options because they are so far behind on general road maintenance.
However, he does say the region is studying ways to improve cycling.
