Two teens sentenced in Kitchener bank robberies

Two Ottawa teens have landed themselves in jail following a string of bank robberies in Kitchener.

18-year-old Ali Abouamo and 19-year-old Miguel Ortiz pleaded guilty in a Kitchener courtroom yesterday and were sentenced to two years less a day in custody, followed by another two years of probation.

The pair along with two other teens drove to the region in October of last year and worked in pairs to rob tellers at five banks in the city and one in London.

Abouamo also admitted to robbing a Kitchener drugstore of painkillers.

The groups leader, 19-year-old Ismail Ali Mohamed still faces charges in connection to the robberies. He’s also charged in connection to 12 bank robberies in Ottawa.
