Witness sought in attempted robbery

Regional police are appealing for help in finding a witness to an attempted jewellery store robbery in Kitchener. A suspect entered the store at Fairview Park Mall shortly before 10:30 Monday morning and threatened employees with a black pistol. He then used an axe to break open a display case and proceeded to put several watches in a bag. The pistol was later determined to be a pellet gun.
Several witnesses intervened and managed to hold the suspect until police arrived. One of those witnesses was injured in the struggle with the suspect and was treated in hospital and released. Police would like to speak to that witness. Investigators are asking the individual pictured, or anyone having information as to his identity, to call Division 1 at 519-650-8500 ext. 4434.
A 35-year old Burlington man is facing robbery and numerous weapons-related offenses. The jewellery and weapons were recovered at the scene.
