A group of about sixty local community leaders and high-tech executives says it’s time to ask voters how they feel about the amalgamation of Kitchener and Waterloo.
They’re presenting letters to both city councils today, asking them to seek provincial approval for a referendum question on the municipal ballot in October.
Communitech President Ian Klugman is a spokesman for the group. He told 570’s Jeff Allan Show, it’s time to ask the citizens what they think.
Klugman says amalgamating the two cities could result in a more efficient operation of services and would give our area greater international exposure.
Klugman says his group is neither pro, nor anti-amalgamation, but that they simply want to see if there is an appetite for discussion of the issue on the part of the general public.
