Help local artists help feed local kids by supporting the LAF Waterloo Region art sale. The new LAF on-line art store is a non-profit effort by regional artist groups to help you ‘Support Local’ by bringing members’ paintings, prints, photographs, sculpture, jewellery, fine crafts and more to you! Whether you visit to buy a gift, something for yourself, your home or just for the visual treat … browse, shop and visit often! All work is available, with new artists and artwork posted twice weekly, and the artist will deliver the work directly to your home. This month, 20% of all sales will support programs offered by Food4Kids Waterloo Region. Food4Kids offers two types of programs: weekend and daily, to provide nourishment to children who, for many reasons, may live with chronic hunger. This year, Food4Kids is providing food support for 1000 children in our community. To browse for art and make your donation, click here: https://www.lafwr.com/charity-partner. This Saturday (Sept. 18th), 14-year old Maddy Letizi is hosting her 5th annual “Ice Cream for Breakfast” fundraiser in support of Make-a-Wish. Maddy has scoliosis and muscular dystrophy and had seven surgeries before she was nine years old. She just endured her eighth surgery, which lasted 12 hours. When she was seven, Maddy was granted her own wish that sent her to Disney World in Florida to meet her favourite characters from the “Frozen” movie. While on that trip, Maddy was allowed to eat ice cream for breakfast every day. She enjoyed it so much, she decided to turn it into a fundraiser. In the past four years, Maddy has raised more than $40,000 and she hopes to raise another $12,000 this year. You can support Maddy by visiting the Stanley Park Community Centre on Saturday between 9-12 and buying ice cream for breakfast. You can find out more information and make a donation online at www.icecreamforbreakfast.ca.
