The 15th annual Moe Norman Memorial Golf Tournament in support of Crime Stoppers Waterloo Region is fast approaching. Legendary golfer Moe Norman loaned his name to the tournament because he believed passionately in the work done by Crime Stoppers. Crime Stopper Programs are organized as a not for profit organization (Charity). A civilian community board of directors provides direction as to the financial and promotional activities of the program. The board of directors enhances the community involvement aspect, and its function is vital to the program's success. The Crime Stoppers program is funded by private donations and fund raising. No tax dollars are involved. The reward money paid out by the program is from fund raising, and donations from concerned citizens and businesses. Organizers are hoping to raise $20,000 with this year’s golf tournament. Registration is open now at a cost of $135 per player (cart and lunch included). Hole sponsorships are also available at $100. At this year’s annual Terry Fox Run, Sunday September 19,2021, Waterloo resident Dave Dame plans to step out of his motorized wheelchair and pound the pavement for 5 kilometres on foot in honour of his hero. He hopes to raise $300,000 in the process, with the help of the local Waterloo Terry Fox Run team. For Dame, who has cerebral palsy, the effort represents an opportunity to inspire others just as Fox did during his Marathon of Hope in 1980.
