Age of Majority Singers is a local community choir based in Waterloo Region that strives to be a diverse, accessible and welcoming space for young vocalists! The choir bridges the gap for vocalists coming out of high school choirs with a target age group of 18-35. Rehearsals happen weekend from September to December and the choir hosts two annual concerts. This year, COVID has taken a significant toll on the choir, with no safe way to rehearse in person. The choir has shifted to a virtual platform, including some online voice-building sessions. Plans are now underway for a smaller, virtual version of one of the usual annual concerts. The Waterloo Region Family Network (WRFN) is a peer-developed and peer-driven network created in 2009 for exceptional families. The original goal was to offer parents an easy way to connect with others who were traveling similar journeys with their own children – people who truly understood their challenges and were able to provide empathy and support through a friendly ear, a helping hand, and guidance when needed. Since then, WRFN has grown to support whole families – parents, caregivers, guardians, individuals with special needs in all life stages, siblings and grandparents – those who make up the WRFN network and fill programs and events. With fundraising responsible for meeting almost 70% of WRFN’s funding needs, the annual “Making Connections” fundraising drive is underway.
