Ten years ago, a group of Kitchener-Waterloo grandmothers came together in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. The group was named OMAS SISKONA (Grandmothers Together) of Kitchener-Waterloo. OMAS SISKONA engages in a number of initiatives each year, including two large fundraisers. One of those fundraisers is coming up on Sunday, November 10th, at Parkminster United Church in Waterloo. Just OMA SISKONAS KW for the 11th annual "Scrabble and Market" from 1:00 – 4:30 p.m. Play Scrabble, Bridge, Rumoli, Cribbage or another game of your choice. Admission is by donation! You can also enjoy tea & goodies in the Tea Room for just $4.00, or shop at the Market for our famous Gift Baskets, Books and Puzzles, Home Baking, Jams, Jellies, Preserves, Handmade Crafts, & Gifts. Frontline workers and first responders will gather in Kitchener next week to learn how to recognize the severity of strangulation and how to better identify, investigate and prosecute strangulation cases related to domestic violence. The Waterloo Regional Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Treatment Centre (WRSADVTC) is partnering with Waterloo Regional Police, Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services, Western University and the Strangulation Training Institute to present the sessions. The training will take place on November 4 and 5, marking the beginning Woman Abuse Awareness Month.
