Two police officers injured during arrest of break-in suspect in Cambridge

Two officers with Waterloo Regional Police were hurt during the arrest of a break and enter suspect earlier this week in Cambridge.

The incident happened the evening of January 4, at a residence in the area of Light Drive and McGill Crescent.

Police received word that a male had broke through a wall in the residence and allegedly attempted to assault a female. Residents in the home were able to barricade themselves until police arrived.

When officers arrived, the suspect attempted to evade them, but they were able to make an arrest.

However, while attempting to make the arrest, two officers suffered injuries that required medical attention.

A 26-year-old Cambridge man is now facing charges including assault — break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence, mischief under $5,000 and criminal harassment.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
