Two arrested after police find loaded handgun in stolen vehicle

Two Kitchener residents are facing charges after Waterloo Regional Police found a loaded handgun in a stolen vehicle.

The vehicle was stolen during a car jacking on Kingsway Drive back on September 14. Five males with handguns allegedly assaulted the victim and stole his vehicle.

He was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

On Tuesday, Sept. 21, members of the Robbery Unit located the vehicle in the area of Grulke Street.

That's when officers found a fully loaded handgun, ammunition, along with suspected cocaine and prescription medication.

A 19-year-old woman and 22-year-old man were arrested. They were both charged with drug and firearm-related offences.

Police also ended up carrying out a search warrant at a residence on Thaler Avenue. They seized two prohibited devices, ammunition, and approximately $22,000 in cash.

The male was held for a bail hearing and was additionally charged with robbery with a firearm, along with other offences connected to the carjacking incident.

The female suspect was released on an undertaking.

Police say further charges are anticipated.
