Provincial police, along with the West Perth Fire Department and Perth County Paramedic Services were called out around 10:30 a.m. Sunday after reports of the child gone missing.
Search efforts on Sunday turned up no results, and had to be called off due to darkness.
It was an all-hands-on-deck type of search, including the use of an OPP helicopter, drones and canine units.
Stratford, St. Mary's and Huron Area Search and Rescue Swift Water Rescue teams were also utilized.
Officials are asking residents not to put together their own search efforts, noting while many have offered to assist, are being told the river isn't safe and could hinder their efforts.
