Regional police laid over 20 impaired charges during Operation Impact

Some alarming results have come out of the recent Operation Impact campaign. The national public awareness campaign promotes safe driving behaviours.

According to Waterloo Regional Police, from October 8 to Oct. 11, they laid 23 impaired driving charges, 19 of which were for being impaired by alcohol. There were also six collisions on the Thanksgiving weekend where impairment was determined to be a factor.

“It is disappointing to see that motorists continue to decide to drive while impaired,” Police chief Bryan Larkin, said in a news release. “Road Safety is a top priority for the Waterloo Regional Police Service, and our members remain committed to ensuring our roads are kept free from impaired drivers.”

Regional police stopped almost 600 vehicles during the long weekend and laid 303 charges.
