By Blair Adams

A Cambridge man has been arrested in connection with an attempted theft investigation in which a Waterloo Regional Police cruiser was hit.

Members of Break Enter and Auto Theft Team, with the assistance of The Emergency Response Team arrested a 36-year-old on Tuesday.

The man, who has not been named, faces several charges including attempt theft and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The incident happened late Sunday night in the area of Franklin Boulevard in Cambridge.

Police had responded to an attempted theft in progress at a business and upon their arrival, they say a pickup truck fled from a parking lot at a high rate of speed.

During an attempt to stop the vehicle, police allege the truck drove at an officer and that's when the cruiser was damaged.

The officer was not hurt.

The suspect vehicle was last spotted fleeing the area in downtown Hespeler.

Police had been looking for a pickup with damage to both sides and missing the passenger side mirror.
