Police looking for suspect following Monday shooting

By Blair Adams

Waterloo Regional Police say they are looking for a lone suspect in connection with a Kitchener shooting in which three people were injured late Monday afternoon.

Police are looking for a black man, wearing black casual pants, a black hoody and white socks. He also had a red backpack.

He was last seen running towards the LRT tracks located behind the plaza where the shooting took place on Fairway Road South, near Wilson Avenue.

The shooting happened shortly after 5:30 p.m.

A man, in his early 30's, was taken to a hospital outside of the area, where he remains in critical condition.

A woman, also shot, remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and a second woman who was hurt has been treated and released.

Police say a fight broke out between three men in the plaza parking lot and a fourth man in the area fired multiple shots, hitting the three victims.

At this point, it's not known if the alleged shooter is known to the three men involved in the fight.

Investigators also say the women who were shot are not known to the males.

Police have set up a command post in the plaza and will be doing a canvass of the area on Tuesday.

They also say if you happen to spot the suspect, do not approach, but call 9-1-1 right away.

Anyone who has information is asked to call police at 519-570-9777 ext. 8666 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
