Regional police have provided an update on the investigation into the suspicious death of an eight-year-old boy in Cambridge over the weekend.

At a news conference Monday afternoon, police identified a male they are continuing to search for. They say he may have information that could assist investigators.

Police say 41-year-old Curtis Hesselink is known to the child, although they won't elaborate on their relation.

If you happen to spot Hesselink, you are asked to call 9-1-1 immediately. Police add they are concerned for his well-being and safety.

Police also say a post-mortem has been completed, but the cause of death has not been determined yet.

Waterloo Regional Police are receiving assistance from Ontario Provincial Police as well. OPP helicopters have been utilized in the search, along with WRPS drones.

Multiple search teams continue to focus around Townline Road, as well as other areas that may be associated with Hesselink.

Initially there were concerns about firearms, however, police say further information and investigation have resulted in no current threat to public safety.

The victim was located at a residence in the area of Townline and River Road Saturday morning.
