Police continuing to investigate fire resulting from party on Ezra

Waterloo Regional Police say they are continuing to investigate a massive fire resulting from what they call an – “unlawful street gathering” – on Ezra Avenue in Waterloo earlier this week.

It happened Monday, September 2, around 10 p.m., police and other emergency services responded to the area of Ezra and Clayfield Avenue after receiving reports of large crowds gathered in the area.

During the gathering, furniture was used to start a fire on Ezra.

The fire was eventually put out by firefighters and no one was hurt.

Anyone who has information about the fire is asked to call police at 519-570-9777 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

On Wednesday, Laurier's vice president of student affairs said students need to start raising their voices against peers who participate in unsanctioned parties.

“Anyone who breaks the law will follow up with us, in terms of our student code of conduct. Sanctions range up to and including suspension and expulsion.” David McMurray told The Mike Farwell Show on 570 NEWS.

The university also issued a statement on Tuesday, saying such events cause significant damage to the university's reputation.
