Ontario Provincial Police will be highly visible on highways this weekend.
Heading into their Civic Day long weekend campaign, OPP say 131 people have died this year (as of July 26) in collisions on the roads they are responsible for patrolling.
"84 per cent of this year's traffic-related deaths with identified causal factors were preventable and the result of poor or careless driving behaviours and actions." the police force stated in a news release.
Provincial police also say 57 per cent of the fatalities in 2021 involved one or more of the Big 4 leading causal factors in road deaths.
The fatalities are related to:
1. Alcohol/Drugs
2. Aggressive Driving/Speeding
3. Driver Inattention/Distracted Driving
4. Lack of seat belt use
Motorists are asked to report concerning driving behaviour immediately by calling the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or 911 for emergencies. Reports can be submitted online at www.opp.ca/reporting.
